Very Special Thanks to Kevin Kundert for this fabulous
Flatiron F5 Chocolate and this very precious story he shares
with us:

Pictured is a good example of a Flatiron F5 made in 1995 and
signed by Bruce Weber.  It has the great Flatiron sound, very
well balanced, with a great midrange.  A McIntire Feather
pickup has been installed and an armguard has been added.
There is a great story about this mandolin.  It was given to
me in 1996 as a gift from my wife, Barbara.  As teachers we
didn’t have enough money to purchase it outright so she took
out a loan to purchase it for me.  She made one payment on
it then we lost her to cancer in September of ’96.  She
literally paid for this mandolin with her very life since credit
life insurance took care of it after her passing.  I don’t open
the case without remembering how I received this gift.
I use it now to play music for our guitar ensemble in church.
It’s a great extra sound that fills in where the guitars leave
out.
I’m also taking mandolin lessons with an emphasis on jazz.
This mandolin sounds good in that venue also.
Thanks for opening this site.  Flatiron mandolins built during
this time and earlier are simply great mandolins.  They
compete with any of the other big brands.
